My name is LeAnn Schafer.  I have been teaching 3rd grade at Waldron Elementary School since 2001.  Prior to this, I taught 4th grade at St. Mary School in Westphalia.  I attended Fowler High School and Central Michigan University.  I have a major in Language Arts and a minor in Earth Science.

I want all of my students to feel comfortable walking into our classroom.  They do not have to enjoy every subject, but I want them to experience a safe and accepting atmosphere.  In our classroom, we stress that how we act is a reflection of not only ourselves, but of our friends, family, school, and community as well.  Therefore, we strive to have an atmosphere of acceptance and respect.  The beauty of individuality is what I hope to instill in all of  my students.  Stress is placed on how each person is special and important.  We try to have this shine brightly for all to see.

Students learn best by doing.  As a result, I try to keep my students actively participating throughout the lesson.  Hands-on activities, technology, and manipulatives are incorporated into many of our lessons.  Students are also expected to explain various concepts that we are learning (both orally and in written form).  In 3rd grade, great emphasis is placed on responsibility.  Students are given greater opportunity to act independently.  Completing work with quality and in a timely manner are stressed.  We work hard to instill a great work ethic that will lay the foundation for years to come.

I live in Fowler with my husband, Tom.  We have four children–Collin, Dane, Danielle, and Taryn.  My hobbies include reading, going for walks, swimming, ice skating, and spending time at our cottage at Horsehead Lake with family and friends.
